Broken Meeple Videos - Santa Maria Review

Santa Maria is a streamlined, medium complexity Eurogame in which each player establishes and develops a colony. The game features elements of dice drafting and strategic engine building. The game is low on luck and has no direct destructive player conflict; all components are language independent.

In the game, you expand your colony by placing polyominoes with buildings on your colony board. Dice (representing migrant workers) are used to activate buildings; each die activates a complete row or column of buildings in your colony. The buildings are activated in order (left to right / top to bottom), then the die is placed on the last activated building to block this space. It is therefore crucial where you put new buildings in your colony, and in which order you use the dice.

What are my thoughts on this new Euro? Check out the review!

UK Games Expo 2018 - Agricola: All Creatures Big And Small: Big Box Live Footage

As promised, I'm going to upload the best of the live footage I was able to obtain during the UK Games Expo 2018 - bear in mind it's my first rodeo using the Gimbal device, but I think it came out pretty well considering - next time I'll have had more practice and will be using additional microphone attachments to improve the audio quality. Enjoy a snippet of Agricola: All Creatures Big And Small!

Broken Meeple Top 10 - Turkeys

It's been a while what with the UK Games Expo and the Top 100 Co-Operative Games saga - go watch those videos if you haven't already. But it's time to talk turkeys.
No not for dinner, but rather the games which I used to like or love, but have slowly faded over the years and not stood the test of time. Which games are finding their way out of my collection on to pastures new and why?

I Don't Do Middle Of The Road.........The Mind Review

Edit: - Firstly let's get the obvious out of the way - this review won't please many people. Particularly those who love the game - spoiler alert! If you're unwilling to take in an opposite viewpoint, then I suggest you stop reading now because as always I make no apologies for writing a negative review. I tell the truth from my perspective and don't sugar coat to please designers or publishers. So if you're ok with all that, please continue and thanks for reading. If you're ignored all this, then at least keep your comments civil (some have failed at this, but that's the internet for you) whistle Edit over. . . .

There are times when you worry about the board game industry as a whole. I've said that innovation is dying these days with the same types of games being released as well as ideas being recycled from the Dark Ages of gaming. We do get some gems that shine through on innovation, like Fog of Love, the upcoming Billy Kerr game, you know, games which genuinely are trying something different. Then we get The Mind............

Top 100 Co-Op Games - with Jason Perez (60-81 PART II)

Here's a big project that has been in the making for the last couple of months! Jason Perez from Every Night Is Game Night (check out his podcast!) invited me to collaborate with him on a grand challenge!

Tom Vasel told him that a Top 100 Co-Operative Games list would be impossible because of the lack of 100 good Co-Op games. Well we took up that challenge by trying to create a list between us. Now some definitions are stretched we admit, but I think we've come up with a good list of 100 quality games (in at least one person's opinion) that has a degree of co-operation within them.

The project will be split into 10 videos. Each section of 20 games will be split into 2 separate videos because when two people talk, we talk for a LONG time! Each pair will focus on 20 games and have an introduction by me to explain what's going on!

We hope you enjoy this ambitious project!! Let us know in the comments what you think and happy watching!
